Finally, let’s look at browser compatibility issues. There was a time just after Microsoft won the first set of browser wars that this wasn’t quite as important; many web designers simply made sure their pages looked good in Internet Explorer and left it at that. If you want to be comprehensive, you need to make sure your pages are compatible with the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, FireFox, Mosaic and Safari. Some do not recommend this technique because it can be misconstrued as cloaking (sending one page to the search engines and another to visitors), but because you actually are trying to show the same site that the visitors see, it isn't really cloaking. Also, the focus of SEO is starting to change. While it is still important to score high in the SERPs, SEOs today should be able to attract traffic to a web site using a variety of methods. And it’s not just about the traffic anymore, either. Many clients are more concerned with ROI; because of this, they’ll not only want to measure traffic, but conversions. It’s more challenging to raise conversions than traffic. Do you have any broken links? If so, fix them. This is something that you’ll have to check on an ongoing basis, because the Internet is always changing. You’ll want to help your visitors and the search engines find their way around your site. To that end, you’ll want to have XML and HTML sitemaps. You’ll also want to have a robots.txt file. If you have flash or frames, you’ll want to offer alternative forms of navigation. Search engine spiders can’t handle flash or frames, and many human visitors have little or no patience for them. “If you think that search will always drive the traffic on the web you might be wrong,” he explains. “However, the thing that will remain – at least for the short term – is the need to develop and improve websites. So if you think you can make a life-long living by tweaking title tags and hunting links, I think that you have a bad model.” Some Final Details While you’re checking everything else, don’t lose track of the content. Do you have at least 250 words of content on every page? If you’re not sure how many words that is, it’s about as many as you see on one page of an average paperback novel. Check your key word density (again) while you’re at it; make sure it is between three and seven percent for each key word on each page. Future Outlook for SEO According to a report from Piper Jaffrey Investment Research titled “The User Revolution: The New Advertising Ecosystem and the Rise of the Internet as a Mass Medium,” search engine marketing is on the rise. The research company expects total search spend to rise from $15.6 billion in 2006 to $44.5 billion in 2011. That’s nearly triple the money in only five years. The report points to four drivers of SEM growth. Interestingly, at least one of those drivers is potentially at odds with EGOL’s observations, for Piper sees increased use of search engines. Indeed, the report notes that more people use search engines to navigate to web sites – nearly twice as many as those who use bookmarks. The numbers even edge out those who type the URL directly into the address bar.Search Engine Optimization is a Continuous Process No business enterprise can survive without marketing and promotion of its products and services. The main reason for this promotion is the fact that 'out of sight is out of mind'. This is why, it is essential to maintain the visibility of the business enterprise in the eyes of the potential customers. Another forum member mentioned a variety of other kinds of back links to check into. Try to get back links from universities, government sites, blogs, forums, and press releases (there are a number of web sites that accept press releases). You’ll also want to get links from blogs, and you might want to look into link exchanges. If we say about unethical ways, then, in that area, everything is optimized for the search engines and methods such as hidden content or hidden links, cloaking, unwanted automated queries and doorway pages are integral part of unethical SEO. Please note that unscrupulous search engine spam techniques could get your site removed and "blacklisted" from search engines. Use only ethical search engine optimisation techniques and services. Another reason Piper sees the field expanding is that direct marketers are increasingly adopting search and SEM. These marketers used to rely almost exclusively on offline marketing methods. They’re beginning to “get it” that SEO and SEM is important. How well they actually understand what it can do for them is another question. While we’re on the subject of links, don’t leave out social bookmarking sites. You don’t want to spam these sites, but you do want to get them to link to you. Gary recommends getting listed in the following social sites: Digg, Technorati, Del.icio.us, NowPublic, StumbleUpon, BlinkList, Spurl, Furl, Slashdot, and Simply. Another SEO forum member added several more to that list: Reddit, Meneame (Spanish), SocialPorn (adult), Odeo (French), and Yigg (German). I’d add Searchles. But not every social bookmarking site is going to be appropriate for every web site. Large brand advertisers are also beginning to get SEM, which is a third factor Piper points to as driving SEM growth. The fourth one is growth in the use of local and vertical search properties. While we’re on the subject of redirects, do you have any 302 redirects on your site? If you do, change them to 301 redirects. Google will penalize you for 302 redirects if you leave them up too long. Gary also notes that you should have PDF optimized docs in your root file with a navigation page listing each document description and link. You should also have a separate XML sitemap for these. You can be certain that the SEO field won’t look the same in five years as it does now. Opportunities in the field will change (more companies are doing SEO in-house rather than working with SEO agencies), and even the kinds of things that are defined as SEO will almost certainly change. Looking further out – say 20 years – we may not even be using anything we’d recognize as a search engine anymore. As long as you are prepared for change, however, and treat learning about your field as a continuous process, you may find a career in SEO to be very rewarding. Check your RSS feeds. Do you have outward RSS feeds so your visitors can sign up for your content? Do you have inward RSS feeds to get fresh content on your page? Don’t neglect your 404 page. Just because users will only see that page if they don’t find your other pages is no reason to leave it generic. Optimize it for the search engines, and make it a little less intimidating for your visitors. In regards of good positioning and organic rankings at major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Following are the methods and facts which should be checked out during “On-page Optimization” and “Off-page Optimization”. Let’s start with On Page Optimization factors – 1. Good SEO strategy. 2. Please go for ethical search engine optimization services. 3. Website home page should have all main links with keyword targeting anchor text. 4. Proper keyword selection and analysis according to your website marketing. 5. Website html and CSS should be as per of W3 validations. 6. Meta tags placements – Mind it – all web pages must have individual and meaning full META tags (title, description, keywords) if you don’t want to be in supplement results in Google. I always used to emphasize. 7. All web pages shouldn’t have the same content and should not be optimized for more than 3 keywords with using h1, h2, h3, h4, bold, italic and other styling tags. 8. Don’t engage in keyword stuffing in the content of web pages. That can really harm. 9. Don’t use any hidden content. 10. Give proper alt tags to images. Now, it’s the turn for Off-page optimization, affiliation, directory submissions and links development are the main parts of Off-page optimization. Let me tell you all web guys in this section that Google Bombing is no more now in Google. Use the same title for directories submissions and link exchanging are over now from Google. The reason was that they were looking for guarantees for very broad keywords. I am very careful in this area, because while I can guarantee a certain percentage increase in traffic or SERPs positioning, recommend appropriate keywords for particular pages or suggest content choices, they wanted pay per performance based on which keywords hit the Top Ten in Google; 26.Organic SEO is Worth the Work By: Akinola Akintomide This article will look at organic optimization techniques for the search engines, basically ethical optimization without a paid placement program in place. I would say this is my favorite way of optimizing websites. You bring in traffic by using content that works, linking strategies, and adding value via interactivity and a great user experience, not paid search listings. In today's fast-paced hi-tech environment, Web sites and individual pages quickly become obsolete, and so do external links placed on your Web site and pages. Regular link checks are vital to keep any website free of errors. Check Your Links! Check the back links to your site in the three major search engines: Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. Google is known to not list all of them, so you really do need to check the other two as well. This is also a good time to double check that you have a DMOZ listing. I also mentioned putting keywords in outbound links to another site. If it’s possible, try to make sure you also have key words in inbound links TO the page from another site. 49.Search engine optimization for travel websites In search engine marketing, travel business is a well known category which is vast with a big competition in online marketing.the keywords were so broad that you could drive a truck through the hole they created. This means that each one will sort out the information that is needed for their database. One engine may consider a particular factor such as "popularity" to be important while another may look at "themes" to be the most important information. This is where making your content accessible to people with disabilities can help. Many of the design decisions you might make to allow a blind person to surf your web page with a text reader will also help a search engine spider. Then again, some things just look “ugly” to a spider. Take dynamic URLs. Search engines have supposedly gotten better at indexing them, but they’re still not a good idea. This is just one example of many. The issue with this myth is that customers actually believe it. They post jobs such as "We want to be number one in the following key words" then list close to a dozen key words, and everything has to be done under a budget of a thousand dollars and in record time. Organic SEO works, is adaptable and ensures high rankings on SERPs over the long time despite changing algorithms, but nobody can guarantee anything in a month. Quick: is "notebook" or "laptop" more popular? That's just one example. Google Trends can help you compare which terms are more popular in what parts of the world, even over time. Here you'd find out that "laptop" is the more popular term in general -- but "notebook" is much more popular in certain parts of the world, such as Italy. Are there any redirects? If you’re using redirects, make sure you’re using them correctly. I’ll mention this again when I discuss linking. What does a search engine spider see when it visits your page? Yes, you want your human visitors to appreciate your web site, but very often they’ll find your site through a search engine. If a search bot can’t make out your content, it can’t let a visitor know that you have something on your site that is of potential interest to them. I personally believe that they are suffering from serious bouts of conscience, making them lash out at SEO practitioners who do not march to their drums. it won’t trick the search engines. Those savvy little sites actually know how to scan for readable, sensible content -- meaning that content which only offers barely strung-together words won’t make the cut.Keyword popularity is another SEO technique. The more popular the keyword is, the more SEO techniques you'll need to use. Is your web site in the top web directories? The top three are DMOZ, Yahoo, and MSN. Those aren’t the only ones you need to be in, but they’re a good start. Some of these directories charge for you to get in (Yahoo is known for charging a fee). Other directories that have been noted by some as being worth getting into include JoeAnt, GoGuides, Best of the Web, Linkopedia, and Bigall.Making or managing a Web site? Improve the quality of your Web site and maintain HTML pages error-free with SeoAdministrator Site Analyzer. Organic SEO is Worth the Work - Organic SEO Content is King. You have to fulfill a need for information. If you do not, your SEO campaign is sure to run into problems. I started off offering SEO as a sidebar to web design and web copy writing. How visible is your domain name? You can count the results at Google for a search for your domain. That shows your URL’s visibility, and it’s a completely different check than your incoming link count. There are a few warning signs that you may be dealing with a rogue SEO. It's far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any doubts, you should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away if the SEO: o owns shadow domains o puts links to their other clients on doorway pages o offers to sell keywords in the address bar o doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear in search results o guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would get anyway o operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info o gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware o has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google Creating a buzz with your content can bring more traffic your way, as people comment on your article and air their views on forums and blogs all over the net, sometimes adding links back to your content. You can create a buzz with unique and relevant listings too; these will be propagated the same way, in forums and blogs, as different people link to it in an effort to answer questions that are posted on blogs and forums on which they are members. Technical Matters Picking up the thread from where I left off, we’re going to revisit the technical aspects of SEO. This time we’re going to focus on the technical aspects that relate to linking. For instance, how many links point to the full URL of the web site? How many point to the full URL of various pages on the web site? Remember too that internal links count; how many internal pages point to your home page? For search engines to remain in business, they need content. To get content they need web sites (that means you). Beware of focusing too much on your web site and what it does to the detriment the searcher and what s/he needs. Your key words should be properly used and should not be inserted in as many places as you believe you can get away with. You can then change your HTML code without worrying about damaging the scripts. It also makes for less download time when the script is used on several pages because the browser will cache the script after downloading it once. There is a big challenge here for an SEO as searches on travel related keywords and phrases are very high, even a small travel key phrase has a big amount of search counts on search engines like Google, Yahoo and Msn (Live). So, a travel website requires more hard work, good strategy and regular implementations for getting high search engines rankings. Continuing the quick review, Gary divided his checklist into four separate areas: meta tags and on-page optimization; technical issues; linking; and other issues. The first area dealt mainly with where you should put your key words; I covered it in detail in the previous article. The second area, which I began to discuss last time, deals with certain items that are easy to check for and easy to fix. I’ll be covering linking and others issues this time around as well. So without further ado, let’s dive back into the details. Organic SEO thrives on content; it therefore demands more creativity and more relevancy than any other method. The content must portray the site as an expert in that particular industry. There are many travel companies having websites on web offering online travel deals and holiday offers. Every website has its own unique range of products, services & travel solutions and likes to be in top search engine placements with their offers. It must always adapt to fit its target. If you find out that your content is not achieving what it is supposed to, then it has to change (note the word organic, meaning living, biotic, adaptable). Rewriting your entire site's content is an option if your site does not currently fulfill your content needs. Constant Refreshing If you want, you can check out the thread where this list was introduced. You’ll also find others commenting on what he covers, and his replies to those comments. Feel free to add your own comments to the thread. Where possible, I’ve tried to include Gary’s comments and observations in both of these articles. If you want to be sure of rising in the SERPs, refresh your content weekly, MSN, Yahoo and even Google reward constant refreshing with higher rankings. So not only will you be offering your users more value, you will also be rewarded by the search engines for helping them do their jobs better. MSN especially awards higher rankings to web sites that are updated regularly. 23.Links and Other Details: Completing Your SEO Checklist By: Terri Wells Last week, I began discussing a list of items you should check when you are performing SEO on a web site. I don’t doubt that those of you new to the field (as well as some veterans!) welcomed the list as a way to avoid losing track of all the details that go into any good site optimization. Another thing that gets me shaking my head is the standard single page of statistics that many SEO firms consider to be an analysis. In this article, I'm going to share with you a couple of secrets to finding out what may really be going on with your website that we always look at during the course of an SEO analysis.
